A church Deacon has been charged with rape and related charges, according to the Bensalem Police Special Victims Unit.
On Wednesday, Jan. 9, the Special Victims Unit arrested 34-year-old Humberto Cervantes of the 100 block of Seltzer Avenue in Coastesville.
An investigation was first started in December 2012, according to police, when the victim disclosed that Cervantes had raped her at a Bensalem motel in 2011, when she was 13 years old. At that time, Cervantes was a Deacon at a Pentecostal Church in Trenton, NJ.
Cervantes and the victim met several times in Bensalem, went to a few parks, talked about church, life and family, according to police. On the final visit when the victim believe they were going to a park, Cervantes took her to a Bensalem motel and raped her.
Bensalem Police and the Chester County Detectives office attempted to arrest Cervantes at his employment in Malvern, but he fled the scene in another vehicle. Police tracked him down and Cervantes eventually voluntarily returned to his work and was taken into custody without incident.
Cervantes left the church in Trenton shortly after the incident occurred, and moved to at a Pentecostal Church on Ontario Street in Philadelphia.
Cervantes was arraigned by Magisterial Judge Leonard Brown and sent to prison in lieu of $1 million bail.
