Injured Dog in Lower Bucks May Have Been Beaten

A 40-pound mixed-breed dog found in Bristol Township on Friday is believed to have been beaten so hard that its eyes were knocked out of their sockets.

The dog, now being called Lady, was discovered by a shop owner in the 5300 block of Emilie Road in Bristol Township, the Bucks County Courier Times reported on Sunday.

According to the article, police called Bristol’s animal control officer who took the dog to CARES veterinary clinic where a doctor placed the dogs eyes back in their sockets. The dog has little chance of regaining full sight to both eyes.

A local county emergency dispatcher is currently taking care of the dog, according to an email sent to Patch. The dispatcher, Jessica Finnell, told the paper she hopes someone with more experience dealing with injured dogs can take care of Lady.

The about 7-year-old mutt also suffered skull fractures, believed to be caused by a beating with a baseball bat, the article stated.

Lady is expected to face a long and costly road to recovery.

A donation fund for the dog on the website ChipIn had already raised $570 dollars as of Sunday evening. Donations are still be collected on the site.

Data gathered from the Humain Society in 2007 shows that more than 64 percent of animal abuse cases involved dogs. The numbers also cite that violence among pit bull-type dogs is on the rise.
