Jail for Driver in Fatal Bensalem Street Racing Crash

The Labor Day crash took the life of a 19-year-old woman from North Carolina.

The Philadelphia driver involved in a one-car street racing crash that killed a 19-year-old North Carolina woman on Labor Day has been sentenced to eight to 23 years in Bucks County prison, followed by seven years of probation, phillyburbs.com reports.

According to the article, Aurelio Xhepaj, 20, pled guilty to vehicular homicide and related charges before Bucks County Judge Jeffrey Finley. Xhepaj will also undergo a mental evaluation and pay $220,585 in restitution.

On Sept. 3, 2012, Xhepaj pulled up his black Volvo next to another car on Lincoln Highway, with Mary Logan in the passenger seat and Michelle Price in the back. According to phillyburbs.com, witnesses told the court that both cars revved their engines, signaling the start of an impromptu street race.

When the traffic light turned green, both cars sped along the highway, approaching Street Road. According to previous reports, Xhepaj lost control of the vehicle, flipped over several times, hit a business sign and caught fire. Xhepaj and Logan were ejected from the car and taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but Price was declared dead at the accident scene.
