Lower Bucks Police Departments Round Up Fugitives

Police apprehended 18 of 75 most-wanted fugitives in the first hours of the sweep.

Many wanted fugitives in the Bucks County and Philadelphia areas had a bad day today.

Officers from four Lower Bucks police departments joined with those from the Bucks County Sheriff's Department and the Commonwealth Constables in a warrant sweep.

Police officials from Bristol, Falls, Middletown and Bensalem townships as well as the other county and state law enforcement agencies held a press conference at the Bensalem Municipal Complex 1 p.m. today announcing the sweep.

Bensalem Public Safety Director Fred Harran said 48 percent of the warrants were drug related.

"Eighty percent of the retail thefts (other warrants) are also drug related because they're stealing from stores to pay for their drugs," Harran said.

"These folks have failed to show up to court, these folks have failed to turn themselves in," he said. "If you're going to go out and commit crimes, we're going to lock you up."

Harran added that it made sense for the towns to work together.

"Crime doesn't stop at Street Road at Lower Southampton. It doesn't stop in Bristol Township off Bensalem Boulevard and New Falls Road," he said.
