Man Critical After Shooting in Bristol Borough

A middle-aged man is in critical condition after shooting himself Friday night in Bristol Borough.

A middle-aged Bristol Borough man shot himself and then asked a responding police officer to kill him Friday night.

The man, who police have had contact with before, is in critical condition at Aria Hospital after a self-inflected gunshot wound to the head, Detective Sgt. Randy Morris said.

According to Morris, arriving officers found the seriously wounded man walking and pleading for them to shoot him dead. Morris commended the officer on how the situation was handled.

The shooting happened of Madison Street at 8 p.m. Police and fire police closed down the intersection where Madison Street meets Farragut Avenue and Pond Street.

Officers shined flashlights in the dark-color Dodge pick-up truck where the man shot himself. A pile of bloody cloths and evidence markers sat nearby.

Police said the bullet exited through the other side of the man's skull.

What lead up to the handgun incident remains under investigation.
