National Drug Recovery Rep Accused of Drug Possession, Breaking Into Home

The executive director of Young People in Recovery broke into a Bensalem home while under the influence of drugs, according to police.

The executive director of an organization aimed at providing treatment and aftercare programs for young people battling drug addiction has been charged with drug possession and burglary after police said he broke into a Bensalem home while under the influence of drugs.

Devin J Fox, 28, who has no fixed address, was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of crystal meth, possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanor offenses, and a felony charge of criminal trespass.

Fox, the executive director of Young People in Recovery, had been in "long-term recovery from drugs and alcohol" since he was 23, according to his bio on the organization's website. Fox is the Recovery Advocate for New Jersey's Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, according to the site.

On Wednesday morning just before 9 a.m., police allege Fox was "possibly involved with some type of drug use," according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Police were called after Fox allegedly broke into a home in the 2300 block of Byberry Road, according to court documents. The homeowner told police she heard her young daughter talking to someone, walked into the kitchen and saw Fox with her daughter.

"The victim called for her daughter and the male began saying he was there for the daughter," according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The man, identified as Fox, fled the home at the woman's prompting and then attempted to enter her vehicle, according to court records. She screamed for help and employees of a nearby business apprehended Fox until police arrived, according to court records.

During questioning two hours after the alleged break-in, Fox admitted to police that he entered the woman's home, "but had no explanation of why," according to court documents.

He reportedly told police that he was driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, struck a median and got a flat tire. After changing the tire, he told police he called AAA and had the car towed to Knights Collision as it was having mechanical problems.

Following the tow, Fox told police that he fell asleep and "doesn't remember exactly what happened next," according to court documents.

Police, after searching Fox's vehicle, found numerous suitcases, a backpack, laptop, an iPad and other personal items, according to the criminal complaint. A brown bag containing crystal meth was also found in the car, according to the affidavit of probable cause. Fox denied that the drugs were his, according to documents. But, police said they found "a small, clear white baggy with white residue" in Fox's pocket.

In a YouTube video posted in September 2012, Fox talked about his recovery from drugs and alcohol and said he had been sober for more than three years. He said that after someone introduced him to crystal meth, he felt like he "was on the moon."

Fox is being held in the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10 percent of $70,000 bail. He awaits a preliminary hearing on Dec. 11.
