Philadelphia Sex Offender Missed 2 Check-ins, Police Say

A convicted sex offender was deemed to be in 'noncompliance' after allegedly missing two windows to register, according to authorities.

A convicted sex offender who allegedly failed to register on two separate occasions as required under Megan's Law, is behind bars.

Durell Lamount Whiten, 31, of the 4100 block of Paul Street in Philadelphia, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree felonies of failure to comply with registration of sexual offender requirements; verify address or photograph as required; and provide accurate information.

Whiten arrived at the Trevose barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police Tuesday and attempted to register as a convicted sex offender, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

When police entered Whiten's name into the system, an alert came back that he was in "noncompliance with registering," according to court documents. Police said Whiten was supposed to have registered in June and September, but did not do so.

Whiten allegedly told police that he had been working in construction with his brother since June and that his email address had changed. According to police, Whiten failed to update this information within the 72-hour window as he is required to do.

Whiten is being held in the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10 percent of $200,000 bail. He awaits a preliminary hearing next week.
