Police Arrest Chair-Throwing Bank Robber at McDonald’s

The following arrest information was provided by the Bensalem Township Police Department. It does not imply conviction.

On Friday, Sept. 21 at about 4:55 p.m., Bensalem police arrested a homeless man for robbing the Fulton Bank on Street Road.

Police said that Maurice Ray, 22, no fixed address, entered the bank and gave the teller a note demanding money and stating he had a gun. The teller turned over an undisclosed amount of money and Ray fled on foot behind several homes and discarded some of his clothing. 

Police continued to search the area along with K-9 from Bristol Township Police. Approximately 40 minutes later, officers observed a cab arrive at the McDonald's on Street Road.

According to police, officers entered the restaurant and noticed a male fitting the description. While attempting to detain Ray, he pushed officers away and attempted to flee through the doors but was pushed back by police. Ray then picked up a 10-15 lb. chair and threw it at the officers. The first chair missed some of the officers, but struck Bristol Twp’s K-9 and his handler. Ray then threw another chair before officers tazed him. Ray continued to fight with officers but was eventually taken into custody.

No police officers nor the K-9 were injured.

Ray admitted to robbing the bank. He was charged with robbery and aggravated assault on police. He was arraigned and sent to Bucks County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
