Police: Man Attempted to Flee After Traffic Stop

State Police released recent crime information, including charges for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

Charges for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer were filed after a man refused to pull over during a traffic stop, according to state police reports.

In late December, Cpl. Andrew V. Hartnett ran a check of a registration plate displayed on a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 to find that the registration was suspended for insurance cancellation, a release from the Pennsylvania State Police said. Hartnett initiated a traffic stop.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 48-year-old man from Newtown, was pulled over on Veterans Highway, just north of Bath Road in Bristol Township, police said. The man's registration plate was seized and returned to PennDOT.

The man was to remain at the traffic stop and wait for a town company, but the man left and drove the vehicle on the highway. He was still in violation of multiple PA Vehicle Code Sections, a release said.

A second traffic stop was initiated, but the man failed to stop and a pursuit began, Hartnett reported. The driver traveled through a residential neighborhood at a high speed, but eventually brought his vehicle to a stop.
