Police said 180 trucks and 18 drivers placed out of service statewide.

Statewide inspections of commercial waste haulers last month resulted in more than 500 traffic citations issued and 180 trucks and 18 drivers were placed out of service, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan announced in a release.

Noonan said the teams conducted 1,298 inspections of waste haulers in May, resulting in 564 traffic citations and 1,408 written warnings. Unsafe brakes and improperly secured loads were among problems the inspection teams found.

According to the release, Troop M, which patrols Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton counties, conducted 85 inspections during which 20 vehicles and five drivers were placed out of service. Local troopers issued 68 citations and 132 warnings.
