Trio Charged in Gun Confrontation Agree to Lesser Charges

Three Bensalem residents agreed to plea deals stemming from an alleged gunpoint confrontation.

A Bensalem man alleged to have pointed a stolen gun during a confrontation has agreed to lesser charges, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.

Rhyzell Yancey, 20, who along with his co-defendants Brittany Steblein, 20, and Brandon Rimer Jr., 19, had been charged with multiple counts of simple assault, making terroristic threats, carrying an unlicensed firearm and reckless endangerment after, according to police, a gun was pulled during an argument with two victims outside a home in Bensalem on July 28.

Under plea agreements reached during preliminary hearings Tuesday, Yancey, Steblein and Rimer agreed to waive charges they face to trial, according to the newspaper.

As a result, Yancey faces fewer and less severe charges, according to the newspaper. Rimer had six charges–including simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats–withdrawn, according to court documents. Steblein waived eight charges–all misdemeanors–for court, according to court records.

Police allege that the argument began when victims yelled at the car, which was driven by Yancey, to slow down. Yancey, slowed down and allegedly began arguing, police said. The victims told police that Yancey said he was going to return and they will have "straps" (slang for a gun).

The vehicle returned to the scene 10 minutes later with the same three passengers and two more men, according to the victims. When they exited the car, one of the victims ran into the house and grabbed a knife to defend his girlfriend and an infant that was inside a car they were loading with clothes, according to the affidavit.

The victim told police that Yancey pointed a gun at his face and said he was going to shoot while Steblein tried to instigate his girlfriend into a fight. The victim also told police he saw another man across the street with a gun, but could not identify him. No shots were fired, and the victims wrote down the license plate number of the vehicle as the suspects fled the scene, according to the report.

Yancey is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of $150,000 bail, according to court documents. Rimer and Steblein are both free after posting bail, according to court records.
