Two Die in Storm-Related Fatal Fire

The cause of the fatal fire on Marion Avenue in Bensalem has been ruled electrical and appears to be storm related.

 

Bensalem police are confirming the death of two individuals in a house fire in the 2900 block of Marion Avenue in Bensalem.

According to police, passerby reported the fire around 3 a.m.

Eddington Fire Company, who had a crew stationed overnight, was able to respond within minutes along with other rescue personnel.

Firefighters entered the home and located two people lying on the floor. The victims were taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital, but later died.  It appears that the residents may have attempted to extinguish the fire themselves with a garden hose.

As of now, the cause of the fire has been ruled electrical and appears to be storm related.  

The victims were identified as Helen Markett, 95, and her daughter, Kathy Griffin, 64. Their pet dog also died in the fire. 

The investigation is being handled by the Bensalem Fire Rescue Department and Bensalem Police.
