UPDATE: Black Bear Roaming in Bensalem Not Caught

The black bear that was roaming Bensalem Township Friday morning was not caught, officials said.

A black bear roaming throughout Bensalem Township has eluded authorities.

Police announced around 9:15 a.m. Friday it was following a bear in the area of Edge Avenue and Michael Drive. Shortly after, police said the bear had made its way to the area of Bensalem Blvd and the PA Turnpike overpass.

At 11 a.m., Bensalem Police announced via Facebook that they had lost sight of the bear. Authorities are still monitoring the area.

"We ask residents to cover their trash, cover their grills and take any other precautions necessary. This bear is apparently smarter than the average police officer," Bensalem Police said.

As of 5 p.m. Friday, the bear was still roaming the township or nearby.
