The remains shuttered. It was suspended three weeks ago by the township over leadership and a big boat.

A recent column by Monica Yant Kinney on Philly.com asked the following question regarding and its infamous fireboat:

“What's a tiny volunteer fire company in Bensalem doing with a $1 million taxpayer-funded fireboat tricked out to troll the Delaware River for blazes, bodies, terrorists, and IEDs?”

The article explained how Union received a federal grant to buy the 40-foot boat, but now doesn’t have the money to maintain it.

In the article, summed up his feelings regarding the boat by saying, "I didn't think the federal government would be stupid enough to give them a boat."

Harran recently suspended the company for the second time in 13 months.

Former Union Chief Dave Jerri told Philly.com that "Fred Harran is a bully. He's abusing his authority.”

According to PhillyBurbs, Jerri resigned last week over the controversy. He was replaced by Jim Barford, the former deputy chief.

Company President Steve Charmichael also resigned. Will Kane is Union’s new president.
