Congressman Applauds End of Iraq War

Fitzpatrick says U.S. should maintain close ties with Iraq.

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, who represents the 8th District in Bucks County, issued the following statement on the official end of the American mission in Iraq:

“I applaud the work done by the brave men and women of the United States military since the conflict in Iraq began in 2003 and thank them for their service and dedication to the cause of freedom.  Their efforts have liberated millions of Iraqis and provided the conditions for the establishment of a sovereign, popularly-elected government by the Iraqi people.  I remain hopeful that the vast potential of this fledgling democracy is realized, and the alliance between our two countries is maintained and strengthened over time.”

“Having recently returned from Iraq last month, I have seen firsthand the progress made over the course of the last nine years.  We must maintain close military, diplomatic and economic ties with the Iraqi people to ensure that this progress is not reversed by internal and external forces which seek to undermine their success.”

“Our veterans should return home with their heads held high and know that we wait as a grateful nation, ready to provide them with what help they may need as they return to their communities.”
