Congressman Calls for Federal Disaster Declaration

Mike Fitzpatrick on President to support Gov. Corbett's request for federal disaster declaration

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick Friday wrote to President Obama supporting Gov. Tom Corbett's latest request for a major disaster declaration for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania resulting from the historic rainfall and record flooding associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee.

All across Pennsylvania, including here in Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, communities along our rivers, creeks and streams have suffered extensive damage this week.

According to a release, a major disaster declaration will allow 42 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, per the Governor’s request, to access emergency aid through the Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act

The communities of eastern and northeastern Pennsylvania have sustained substantial damage as a result of the recent flooding.  Historic rainfall across a large swath of the commonwealth has swelled rivers, creeks and streams.  Tens of thousands of people along these waterways, including residents of Bucks County along the Delaware River, are now beginning the process of cleanup and recovery.

I request that you take the necessary steps to ensure adequate and timely federal support and resources to help Pennsylvania recover and rebuild from this natural disaster.
