Congressman Looks for Students Interested in Service Academies

Fitzpatrick seeks to guide prospective candidates through the nomination process.

A local lawmaker is looking for potential cadets and midshipmen.

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-8th) will be hosting a service academy information session on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon. The session will be held in the Gallagher Room of the Bucks County Community College Newtown campus, 275 Swamp Road.

According to a release, the congressman and his staff will be joined by representatives from the service academies for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine.  There will also be representatives from the Reserve Officers Training Corps, together with cadets and midshipmen who can talk about their experiences in the different programs.

“I encourage students who are interested in applying for a nomination to one of our nation’s military service academies to join us on the 24th,” said Fitzpatrick.  “This session will provide importance guidance through what can be a long and, at times, difficult process towards earning an academy nomination.  I look forward to meeting with students from across the 8th District who are interested in serving their country in the armed forces.

While the session is primarily intended for high school seniors and their parents, sophomores and juniors seeking more information are also encouraged to attend.  For more information, students should visit Fitzpatrick’s website or contact Rob Mitchell at 215-579-8102
