Ex Bensalem Detective Tabbed To Run Penndel Force

Sciscio spent about a dozen years here

Joseph Sciscio – who left the Bensalem Police Department in May after a dozen years for a federal law enforcement position – has been named Penndel's police chief.

The 35-year-old former Bensalem resident was sworn into office Tuesday after the Penndel council voted 6-0 in favor of his appointment.

The new chief, who grew up in the Neshaminy Valley and played Little League in Penndel, told Patch he is excited about the opportunity.

“As with any small department, we want to increase funds coming in, buy more equipment, buy more cars and start some community programs,” he added. “We want to get the community more involved with the police department.”

Sciscio will supervise 12 employees. He will be paid about $60,000.

Sciscio started his police career in Bensalem in 1998 and was promoted to the rank of detective in 2004. He was named the department’s Police Officer of the Year in 2003. He specialized in investigating crimes involving computers and served on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force from 2007 to this year.

He works as an adjunct instructor for ITT Technical Institute in Bensalem, where he teaches criminal justice courses.

The Penndel department had most recently been overseen by Officer in Charge Barry Davis. Its last chief retired a couple years ago.
