Grants Available to Help Preserve African American Heritage

Non-profit organizations and local governments working to preserve Pennsylvania's African American heritage have until Sept. 30 to apply for federally funded technical assistance grants from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC).

According to a release, this funding is made available through the Preserve America program of the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.

PHMC is offering technical assistance grants to undertake the documentation, preservation and interpretation of Pennsylvania’s African American history. The maximum grant award is $3,000, and a match is not required.

“These grants can help organizations learn how to identify, evaluate, preserve and interpret historic buildings, records and other collections for the benefit of Pennsylvania’s citizens and visitors, and to support public programming at the community level,” said PHMC Executive Director Barbara Franco.
