PennDOT to Install Traffic Counter on Route 1

Lane restrictions involved in this project.

Nighttime lane closures are scheduled next week on Route 1 in Bucks County for traffic counter repair and replacement, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced. 

According to a release, the devices are sensors which are installed below the road surface and automatically count the number of vehicles that travel through a given location each day.

Sunday (April 17): One lane will be closed on northbound Route 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Business Route 1 and Route 413 in Middletown Township, Bucks County.

Monday (April 18): One lane will be closed on southbound Route 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Business Route 1 and Route 413 in Middletown Township, Bucks County.

Tuesday (April 19): One lane will be closed on northbound Route 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Interstate 95 and Oxford Valley Road in Middletown Township, Bucks County.

Wednesday (April 20): One lane will be closed on southbound Route 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Interstate 95 and Oxford Valley Road in Middletown Township, Bucks County.

Motorists are advised to be alert and to expect possible slowdowns when driving near the work crews.  The operation is dependent on the weather. 

Kuharchik Construction Inc. of Exeter, Pa. is the contractor on the $479,271 project.  The project will be completed in February 2012 and also includes 22 other traffic counter installation sites throughout Pennsylvania, including the following locations in the Philadelphia region:

  • Bucks County: Route 1, Route 202
  • Chester County: Route 202
  • Delaware County: Baltimore Pike
  • Montgomery County: Interstate 76, Route 309, Route 422
