School District to Fight Assessment Reductions

Bensalem Township School District intends to fight six assessment reductions.

Six recent successful assessment appeals "substantially reduced" the amount of taxes Bensalem Township School District receives.

And, following suggestion from the school board attorney–and an affirmative vote Wednesday night–officials intend to work to have those appeals overturned.

In all, attorney Thomas Profy said the assessment reductions amount to a combined $150,000 less in annual real estate taxes.

"We've had successes in the past," he said of the possibility of overturning the decisions.

Also on Wednesday, the board approved real estate refunds five real estate refunds, including $44,161.92 to Neshaminy Eight L.P.; $38,503.40 to Berton E., Leonard I., and Steven H. Korman; and $40,125.99 to N.I. Associates.

In all, the board unanimously approved $124,714.77 in tax refunds because of reduced assessments, and, in one instance, an assessment error. Profy said none of the reimbursements approved Wednesday were the subject of the district appeals authorized during the meeting.
