TMA Bucks: ‘No Texting While Driving’

Organization is placing signs at Bucks County high schools.

TMA Bucks (Transportation Management Association) announced that the organization will be providing all Bucks County high schools and colleges with “No Texting While Driving” signs that the schools can place at parking lot exits to remind student drivers of Pennsylvania’s anti-texting law that went into effect March 8.

According to a release, the anti-texting law prohibits as a primary offense any driver from using an Interactive Wireless Communication Device (IWCD) to send, read or write a text-based communication while his or her vehicle is in motion and carries a $50 fine upon conviction of a violation.

“A key component of our work as a TMA is driver safety with a particular emphasis on high school aged drivers who are still gaining experience behind the wheel,” said TMA Bucks deputy director Steve Noll.  “We consider these signs a simple means of encouraging safe driving behavior among younger drivers on a consistent and long-term basis.”

TMA Bucks, which is located in Trevose, will be purchasing the signs through a donation from Sen. Tommy Tomlinson’s office. Tomlinson sponsored Senate Bill 314, which was approved by the Senate in November 2011 and was then signed into law by Gov. Tom Corbett.

“The TMA is extremely appreciative to Senator Tomlinson for providing the funds for these signs that will likely save lives by encouraging students to put down the cell phone when driving,” added Noll.
