Voters Turned Away at Bensalem Polling Place: Source

About 20 voters were not able to vote between 7 and 9 a.m. this morning at the Holy Family polling location, a source told Patch.

Approximately 20 voters were turned away this morning at a Bensalem polling place after the Judge of Elections failed to show up, a source told Patch.

Janie Mackenzie, a chief strategist with the Bensalem Democratic party, said the issue happened at the Holy Family polling location.

“The Judge of Elections did not show up this morning due to a family emergency but apparently there was no contingency plan put in place and voters were turned away for close to two hours before the issue was fixed,” Mackenzie told Patch.

She said the polls eventually opened shortly before 9 a.m. She estimated about 20 voters were impacted by the complication. “Almost all were livid, several said they would not be coming back but it seemed to make some more adamant about having their vote counted,” she said.

Mackenzie said she will be filing a complaint.
