Holy Family's Dodji Freitas Repeats as CACC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Holy Family senior Dodji Freitas (Philadelphia, Pa.) has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 1, 2012) - Holy Family senior Dodji Freitas (Philadelphia, Pa.) has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week, for the period ending Sept. 30.  Freitas earns the honor the second time this season.  Concordia freshman goalkeeper Ruel Gordon (Westmoreland, Jamaica) was also a repeat winner, as he was honored as the CACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.

CACC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DODJI FREITAS, HOLY FAMILY (Sr., M/F, 5-10, Philadelphia, Pa.) - Tallied a total of eight points over a pair of matches last week including a three-goal effort in 3-2 win over Molloy (9/26).  Followed that with two assists in 3-2 loss vs. Dominican (9/29).  Currently tied for the CACC lead with 11 goals.

CACC MEN'S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
RUEL GORDON, CONCORDIA (Fr., GK, 6-0, Westmoreland, Jamaica) - Posted a pair of shutouts over St. Thomas Aquinas (9/24) and Goldey-Beacom (9/29), while making a combined 14 saves.  Currently NCAA Division II leader in saves per game at 8.0.

CACC MEN'S SOCCER HONORABLE MENTION
TOM QUARANTA, WILMINGTON (Jr., F, 6-0, Baldwin, N.Y.)
Scored a pair of goals in a 4-3 win over Nyack (9/29), including the game-winner with 45 left in the first overtime.

BRENDAN HUGHES, CALDWELL (Sr., D, 6-0, Lyndhurst, N.J.)
Netted game-winning goal in 2-1 at Bloomfield (9/26), which marked the Cougars third-consecutive victory.


PEDRO DE ARAUJO, Dominican (Sr., M, 5-10, Campinas-SP, Brazil )
Posted a pair of scores, including the game-winning tally in 3-2 win over Holy Family (9/29).

CACC MEN'S SOCCER TEAM NOTES
BLOOMFIELD - The Deacons went 1-1 this week, picking up a one-goal victory over CACC rival Chestnut Hill College Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Kemar Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) tallied his fifth goal of the season in the victory, while senior Michael Beeson (London, England) netted his first goal of the year to provide the game-winner and move the club to 3-1 in conference play. Sophomore keeper Kieran Moran (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied six saves to pick up the win in the 2-1 contest. In the club's 2-1 loss to Caldwell College Tuesday, senior Diego Mayanga (Queens, N.Y.) tallied his first goal of the season on an assist from fellow senior Momar Diop (Union City, N.J.).

CALDWELL - The Cougars won their third game in a row with a 2-1 victory at Bloomfield on Wednesday, evening their conference record at 2-2. Seniors Chris Skarbelis and Brandon Hughes scored for Caldwell, while freshman goalkeeper Michael Hartmann registered five saves. The win snapped a three-game losing streak to the Deacons. This week the Cougars host Dominican on Tuesday and Philadelphia on Saturday as a part of Caldwell's Homecoming celebration.

CHESTNUT HILL - The Griffins bounced back from a disappointing 5-1 to Bloomsburg University, on Tuesday, September 25, to challenge Bloomfield College in a closely played CACC contest on Saturday, September 29. The Griffins knotted the affair with the Deacons just before half on a corner kick, 1-1, but fell 2-1 on a late goalkeeping error.

CONCORDIA - Concordia went 2-1 last week with wins over St. Thomas Aquinas (2-0) and Goldey-Beacom (3-0). The only loss for the Clippers came at home against Post (3-1). Ruel Gordon (Savanna La Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica) recorded 19 saves during the week while allowing only one goal for Concordia. Jonathan Short (Tottenham, Canada) and Jesus Alvarez-Riesco (La Coruna, Spain) both tallied two goals apiece during the week. The Clippers will host Nyack on Tuesday afternoon and travel to Wilmington (Del.) on Saturday as Concordia only has five more matches remaining on their regular season schedule.

DOMINICAN - The men's soccer team posted a 2-0 record this week to now stand at 6-2-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play. DC defeated Felician College, 2-0 and Holy Family University, 3-2 in overtime. Pedro De Araujo scored two goals in the win over the Tigers, including the game winner.

GOLDEY-BEACOM - The Lightning split a pair of contests last week, improving their record to 2-6-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the CACC. After snapping a five-match losing streak with a 4-0 victory over Washington Adventist on Tuesday, the Lightning dropped a 3-0 CACC verdict against Concordia on Saturday afternoon. The victory over Washington Adventist marked the Lightning's first win since a 2-1 decision in the season opener against Saint Rose on Aug. 31. Junior forward Thatcher Howell and senior defender Mariano Olcese each tallied a goal with an assist against Washington Adventist. The Lightning will have a busy week ahead with three matches. After traveling to Chestnut Hill on Monday night, the Lightning will host Shippensburg on Wednesday before visiting Post on Saturday afternoon.

FELICIAN - The Golden Falcons traveled to two of the top teams in the CACC last week with mixed results. After dropping a 2-0 decision at Dominican on Sept. 26, Felician defeated regionally-ranked Philadelphia, 1-0, three days later, on the first career goal by redshirt freshman Brian Vega in the 78th minute. All four victories this year for the Golden Falcons have come by 1-0 scores.

HOLY FAMILY - Holy Family went 1-1-0 this past week as the Tigers played in their fourth straight overtime contest. The Tigers began the week with a 3-2 victory over Molloy College in overtime. Senior Dodji Freitas scored all three goals as he is currently tied for the conference lead in goals scored this season with 11. Freitas also tallied two assists in the team's 3-2 setback to Dominican in overtime on Saturday. 

PHILADELPHIA - The Rams (4-2-4, 2-1-3 CACC) suffered their first two losses of the season after being shutout by East Stroudsburg 2-0 on Sept. 26 and Felician on Sept. 29. Philadelphia, who was fifth in the Sept. 25 NSCAA Division II East Region Rankings, has a three-match road swing with contests against Holy Family (Oct. 2), West Chester (Oct. 4), and Caldwell (Oct. 6).

WILMINGTON - Wilmington picked up back-to-back wins for the first time this season, first defeating Atlantic Regional No. 8 West Chester, 1-0, on Tuesday before defeating East Region No. 10 Nyack, 4-3, in overtime on Saturday. Zach Hinte scored his first goal of the season in the 39th minute on a feed from Kresimir Nurnberger for the eventual game-winner against West Chester. Tommy Quaranta tallied two goals against Nyack, his first coming only 52 seconds after Justus Henry tied the game at 1-1 in the 11th minute. Quaranta challenged a clear by the keeper and deflected the attempt into the goal. His second goal was a game-winner with 45 seconds left in the first overtime, on a feed from Pedro Moreira to the front of the goal. Spyros Stergiotis made six saves in two starts last week, going 2-0 with one shutout. WU has a busy week this week, first playing Felician on Monday before heading to Millersville on Wednesday. They cap the week with a home game against Concordia on Saturday.
