BCCC Launches Nationwide Search For New President

The college has hired executive search firm Greenwood/Asher to help find a candidate to replace Dr. James J. Linksz, who is retiring after 20 years.

The Board of Trustees has hired executive search firm Greenwood/Asher & Associates, Inc. to help select the next college president. Longtime president Dr. James J. Linksz is retiring after 20 years at BCCC.

The Board of Trustees announced the appointment at a meeting Thursday. Greenwood/Asher has conducted searches for presidents, chancellors, vice presidents, and deans at two- and four-year institutions and system offices throughout the country, college officials said.

Blake Eisenhart, lead trustee for the presidential search, said the search requires significant effort.

“The Board of Trustees has invited approximately 40 members of the greater college community to work with the trustees and the search firm collectively as the college transitions to new leadership,” said Eisenhart. “These community members include faculty, students, staff, BCCC Foundation board members, alumni and community leaders.  We are committed to an inclusive and transparent process.”

“The trustees recognize that the engagement and participation of the greater college community is critical to ensure the success of a new president,” said board Chairman J. Peter Dominick. “They will provide perspective and guidance to the Board of Trustees, which has the responsibility to select a new president for the college.”

Linksz, who has served as president of the college since 1992, announced in November that he plans to retire this year after a replacement is found to ensure a smooth transition.

Prior to coming to BCCC, Linksz served as a dean and professor at Catonsville Community College in Catonsville, Md., and earlier was the founding dean at Rappahannock Community College in Glenns, Va. He earned his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College, and his graduate and doctorate degrees at Columbia University.

Linksz is the third president in the college's 46-year history. He replaced Dr. William Vincent, who served from 1987 to 1992. Founding president Dr. Charles E. Rollins served from 1965 until his retirement in 1987.
