Bensalem Students Headed to Mississippi for Academic Competition

The Robert K. Shafer Middle School STEM Team is headed to Mississippi this weekend to compete in a national SeaPerch challenge.

The Robert K. Shafer Middle School STEM Team placed second in the Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch challenge in April, granting them an invitation to Nationals, to be held this weekend at University of Southern Mississippi.

The team has been working tirelessly since January to complete four tasks in preparation for the competition, district officials announced.

In addition to placing second in the Pool Performance category, they also won second place in the Team Spirit and Sportsmanship category and sixth place in Engineer's Notebook category.  The pool performance category consisted of an obstacle course of hoops to maneuver through and a challenge where the underwater robot had to disarm mines, lift a latch, open a door, and pick up different weighted boxes and carry them back to the side of the pool.
