Community Prom Pride Project Wraps Up At Pro Hair Salon

The salon was one of several businesses that made prom possible.

With less than six hours to go, Danielle Martin was getting her free up-do at on Street Road in preparation for her senior prom Friday at the U.S. Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Her hair and makeup were at center stage as the senior repeatedly expressed her thanks. But it was her smile and that of her mom, Loralee, that said it all.

“It's the best time of their lives and everybody deserves that,” salon manager Chickie Horton said in explaining why she and stylist Valerie Bolger decided to take part in the school district's inaugural Community Prom Pride Project.

Bolger agreed.

“Every girl should go to her prom,” she said.

After nominations were made by guidance counselors, Danielle was chosen along with Artina Nimpson, Kristofer Sippel and Juan Morales Gonzales as beneficiaries of the generosity of several local businesses including Pro Hair Salon that made prom possible for the student who had overcome significant challenges. Danielle's father recently passed away.

The girls also were provided with free gowns from the dress shop and flowers from . The boys got free tuxes from the and boutonnieres from Barbara's.

"What a great statement of support from our community to our students,” high school Principal Bob Anderson recently said.
