District Opening Gym to Township in September

Bensalem Township contributed $4 million to the construction of the new facility. In return, the school district will share access to the gymnasium.

The Bensalem School District will begin sharing use of the high school's new gymnasium with the township beginning September 9, according to comments school board President Ralph Douglass made at a recent meeting with the Bensalem Business Association.

Granting Bensalem access to the new facility will honor an agreement signed by the two parties in 2010.

"The township was looking to build it's own community center, and everybody thought it would be a good idea to combine our resources," said Douglass.

In exchange for shared use, the township contributed $4 million to the gymnasium's construction costs. Half of the contribution came from a state grant, and the final $2 million came from the township, which was required to match the funds.
