Historical Society, Country Club Want Armstrong Middle School Artifacts

The Bensalem Township School Board will discuss requests from the historical society and the township country club.

Now that the Neil A. Armstrong Middle School is no longer needed, the Bensalem Township School Board will discuss requests from the historical society and the township country club for some of the middle school's artifacts.

At the Wednesday, April 24 meeting, the board will vote to approve the request from the Bensalem Township Country Club for the donation of the weather vane from the top of the middle school's flag pole. If the request is granted, the weather vane "would be displayed at a place of prominence" at the country club.

The Historical Society also hopes to be given several artifacts from the middle school. The artifacts would be displayed at the Historial Society's museum located on Knights Road, if the request is granted.

Until Bensalem High School's new gym was built, the gym at Armstrong was used by some high school sports teams. Now that the facility is no longer needed, the Bensalem Township School District is deciding what to do with the middle school.

"We are seriously considering selling it," School District President Ralph Douglass said at the last board meeting. "It was being used for its gym, but now that there is a new gym, it is no longer needed."

The country club and historical society hope to remove some items from the school before anything is done to the building.
