How Much Will The Sandusky Settlements Cost Penn State?

Settlement negotiations with those who say they were abused by Jerry Sandusky lasted about a year.

All told, settlements to people who say they were abused by Jerry Sandusky will cost Penn State nearly $60 million.

The university announced last week that it was paying $59.7 million in settlements to 26 people over claims of sex abuse at the hands of the former assistant football coach, The Associated Press reported.

Settlement negotiations lasted about a year, the university said.

Sandusky, 69, was convicted in June 2012 of 45 criminal counts. He currently is appealing his conviction.

Penn State already has spent about $50 million in relation to the Sandusky scandal, including lawyer fees and public relations expenses.
