School Board OKs Charter High School

School Lane Charter School applauds board's decision.

 

On Wednesday, the approved a new high school for the School Lane Charter School. The expansion to the K-8 school’s charter was made possible through a 6-3 vote.

According to PhillyBurbs, board members Heather Nicholas, Elizabeth Cerasi, Yagnesh Choksi, Wayne Lewis, Kevin McKay and Pamela Strange voted “yes.” Kim Rivera, Ralph Douglass and Matthew Grodsky voted against the measure.

“Area families have long sought the opportunity to exercise public school choice for their high school-aged children,” said School Lane Charter School Principal and CEO Karen Schade. “We applaud the Bensalem Township School District School Board and administration for putting students first in their decision to approve amending School Lane’s charter to pave the way for a charter high school.” 

The school plans to open the high school in August 2012 with its inaugural class of ninth grade students and phase in other grades at a later date.

If the application wasn't approved, Schade told Patch they would have likely appealed.

School Lane officials will provide enrollment information and critical updates on its website at www.schoollane.org. Facebook users can also “like” School Lane High at www.facebook.com/schoollanehigh for updates on the emerging charter school, as well as to post questions and ideas.
