Snyder Students Show Off Ballroom Dance Moves

Eighth-graders at Cecelia Snyder Middle School in Bensalem demonstrate the ballroom dances they learned following 10 weeks of Dancing Classrooms Philly.

It takes two to tango ... and foxtrot, swing, waltz and rumba.

And Cecelia Snyder Middle School eighth-graders learned all of those ballroom moves, plus more during a 10-week Dancing Classrooms Philly program, which concluded recently.

On Wednesday, student dancers strutted their stuff in the gymnasium for fellow students and loved ones to conclude the event, which was a first for Bensalem Township School District. Officials said they hope to continue the dance instruction program, which was piloted at Snyder through a grant, at both middle schools.

Over the course of the 10 weeks, students transformed into ladies and gentlemen, well versed in the foxtrot, merengue, tango, salsa, swing, waltz and rumba.

"We teach life lessons wile ballroom dancing," one of the instructors said at the beginning of Wednesday's program. "They're standing tall. They're looking each other in the eye."
