'Working' Musical Debuts Friday at Bucks County Technical High School

The BCTHS drama department will perform 'Working' Friday's March 15 and 22 and Saturday's March 16 and 23.

Bucks County Technical High School's drama department will perform "Working" as this year's spring musical.

For two weekends (Friday and Saturday, March 15-16 and 22-23) students will bring the musical, which is based on the 1974 book, Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do. "Working" gives an oral history of American workers, according to Director Adrienne Bogarde Roach, to the stage.

"The book is based on interviews of hundreds of American men, women, and children of all ages, races and socioeconomic backgrounds," she said.

The musical first debuted on Broadway in 1978, and for more than 30 years it has been a favorite among regional and community theater companies, Roach said.

Obviously the work force has changed since the musical first debuted in the '70s, so in 2010, it was updated to reflect the evolved American workforce, Roach said, and returned for another stint on Broadway in December 2012.

Roach and Technical Director James Sohenuick said that since the country is focusing on the economy and job creation, it is meaningful to be putting on a production of "Working" at this time.

"As directors at a Technical High School, it has been our dream to bring this show to our school and community, because many of the characters portrayed are employed in vocations in which we are training our students," they said. "Each character in the production has a poignant message—and each and every audience member will be able to relate to their thoughts, hopes and dreams."

Tickets to the show $12 per person, or $10 with a student ID. The performance will take place at the school, located at 610 Wistar Rd. in Fairless Hills. Shows start at 7:30 p.m.
