Local Veteran Brings Home Gold from Wheelchair Games

She finished first in several contests.

Barbara Williams, of Bensalem, won medals in the 200-meter dash, the motorized wheelchair slalom and bowling at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Pittsburgh.

Attracting around 600 athletes each year, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games are the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world, a release state.

According to a story by Jim McGinnis on PhillyBurbs.com, Williams honed her bowling skills at Brunswick Zone in Lower Southampton where they have special ramps for the disabled.

Williams suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. She told PhillyBurbs that she isn’t troubled by her medical condition.

“I’ll be here as long as God wants me to be here,” she said.

According to the story, Williams is a member of the and a volunteer with the township’s disabled persons advisory board.
