Sign Up for the Seventh Annual Robert Massaroni 5K Run

The annual race is held in honor of a Bensalem teacher who died suddenly in 2007 while participating in the Broad Street Run.

The following was provided by the Bensalem Township School District:

The 7th Annual Robert Massaroni Memorial 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will take place on Sat., Sept. 21.  The race begins and ends at Robert K. Shafer Middle School, 3333 Hulmeville Road.

Registration is from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m., with the race beginning at 9 a.m.; Fun Run/Walk begins right after race starts.

Robert Massaroni was a teacher at Robert K. Shafer Middle School in Bensalem, as well as a Master karate instructor at Nate Gordon’s Black Belt Academy (not to mention a World Champion in Tang Soo Do).

On May 6, 2007, Rob was leading a brigade of more than 30 orange T-shirt-clad young runners from Shafer into the 10-mile Broad Street run when he collapsed and passed away at the finish line.  He was just 29 years old.  The race was formed to honor Massaroni’s memory and his dedication to personal fitness and the education of young people.

The Bucks County Roadrunners and the Just for the Kids Education Foundation coordinate this community run/walk each year as a way to keep Massaroni’s memory alive and to benefit a great cause.

Given his dedication to children, all money raised by this event goes to support the Just for the Kids Education Foundation, a non-profit organization which raises funds to give the teachers in the Bensalem School District money for innovative programming (speakers, presentations, etc.) that otherwise may not be funded.
