Pro-Act Seeks Team Captains for Local Recovery Walks

Organizational meetings slated for July 14 and August 14 in Lower Bucks.

PRO-ACT (Pennsylvania Recovery Organization–Achieving Community Together) seeks individuals to organize teams for the upcoming “Recovery Walks! 2011”—part of the Rally for Recovery in recognition of National Alcohol & Drug Recovery Month. The walk is scheduled for Sat., Sept. 24, at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia.

Team Captain Kick-off meetings for men or women interested in becoming team captains will be held on Thurs., July 14, at 5 p.m. and again on Thurs., Aug. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Southern Bucks Recovery Community Center (SBRCC) in the BristolOffice Center, 1286 Veterans Highway, Unit D-6, in Bristol.

“We are thrilled that Philadelphia has once again been designated as the national hub for Recovery Month events,” said Bev Haberle, PRO-ACT director. “Last year, 11,000 people from the greater Philadelphia area joined the mayor and otherdignitaries to celebrate life and hope through recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs—and we’re expecting at least as many again this year.”

Anyone who wishes to show support for recovery from addiction to alcohol or drugs in the community is encouraged to participate. At the Team Captain Kick-off meeting, participants will learn how they can get involved in this national event and get others to show their support for recovery. The meetings are expected to run approximately 90 minutes.

Proceeds from the walk will fund local services to help people access and sustain long-term recovery, including mentoring and life skills coaching. PRO-ACT provided more than 5,400 recovery support services to individuals in southeastern Pennsylvania. Funds from the walk will also go toward community education and recovery support advocacy at the local, state and federal levels. Contributions are tax deductible and may be designated to specific local PRO-ACT activities.
