Rotary Club Provides Thanksgiving Dinner for 175 Families

The Rotary Club started its Thanksgiving program 14 years ago when it provided baskets for 60 families.

The Rotary Club of Bensalem is making sure needy families in the township can still enjoy a real Thanksgiving dinner this year.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, dozens of Rotary members and guests gathered at the Philadelphia Christian Center at 2990 Street Road to fill Thanksgiving bags with all the fixings from cranberries, stuffing and corn to macaroni & cheese and brownies. They prepared enough bags to feed at least 175 families.

Prior to the meeting, Rotarian Barry Schien thanked the following businesses and organizations for supporting this effort:

“As an individual, this is my favorite event that we do,” said Bensalem Rotary President Mike Zielanski. “Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and being able to help 175 families is wonderful. I’m sure the group echoes my feelings.”

According to the Philadelphia Christian Center, this effort is especially important this year because so many families are going through tough times in this economy.

To help defray the cost of the Thanksgiving effort, the Rotary Club is hosting its annual Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Love Fellowship Tabernacle Church, 5918 Hulmeville Road. The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon and costs $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 4 to 12. Toddlers 3 & under are free.

The event includes door prizes, raffles and live entertainment.
