Why is the Monroe Patch in Ct. sharing this Newtown from-another-state story? I have no interest inRead More this new Patch...

How did this end up in a Patch from CA? I'm from the Newtown area, but now I'm in Wisconsin yetRead More here I am reading about Newtown in a CA Patch. BTW, The Green Parrot is a pretty nice place, all of Newtown is. The night crowd tends to be young. And although I don't know him or his connection, his last name is famous in the area. Worthington was one of the first influential settlers and there are several places bearing the name.

And we don't get any local news. Oxford Patch did not report the burglary's in Oxford.
BBW April 18, 2014 at 11:40 am
We don't have any local news, just boring politics, rained out stories of "Sandy", PoliceRead More stories without names and details. All the usual "cub reporter" crap. Don't blame the reporters it's just an on line "rag". Not even the ability to find stories, investigate a good story, or "MODERATE" the posts and comments. Example Notice the picture of the perp? Check the ears, eyes and face. Wrestler, MMA, brawler? What's your take on the guy, and why did he leave town? Drugs? What did the witnesses say to the cops… lots of good stuff in town, but poor reporting from the "PATCH". No follow-ups either.

I think the woman may have deserved those words, but the judge was unwise to say them. Her sentenceRead More could be overturned on appeal because a higher court could perceive the judge as biased in his judgment.
Ellyn April 18, 2014 at 12:34 pm
I agree with the judge, and I do think that the death penalty is a reasonable consequence (not aRead More deterrent, but a consequence) for such a crime. Still, it does seem that the judge's emotions got a bit hot, though I can't blame him one bit.

Bob, they have investigated Sheriff Arpaio to the point of harrassment, and CLOSED the case afterRead More finding nothing. You DO realize that Arpaio doesn't actually do the traffic stops himself, that "sometimes" drunk drivers ARE black or hispanic, and that at night you can't tell who is behind the wheel until you pull them over for a traffic violation? There was an old joke where Redd Foxx was put on hold at the Social Security Administration before he got a word out of his mouth. He said "if I were white, this never would have happened". McNabb thinks he is immune to consequences, because he has always been immune from birth by parents and coaches. His experience has been to get off for things the rest of us couldn't possibly get off from. No time to feel sorry for a drunk driver that could have killed one of our loved ones. I'd get no thrill knowing they were killed by a famous drunk. But, it is a real stretch to decide to blame a Sheriff who believes in the letter of the law. We have nothing to fear from the laws on the books, at least the ones that were there before 2008, the ones our representatives passed. The ones made by our current dictator are the only ones in question.

Mikey, I hope you are right, that is all that it is. I don't drive under the influence and neitherRead More should McNabb. I'm not a big fan of McNabb precisely because of what Carmudgeon said. McNabb didn't throw a good ball.

Ridiculous. People need to read the book I had to read for my MSW program at the University of IowaRead More School of Social Work, "The Rich Get Richer and the Poor Get Prison." Matt Taibbi wrote an update (as wealth inequity and white-collar crime continue unabated and unconsequented) called "The Divide," which says much the same thing, and I'm anxious to read it. Wall Street CEOs can still millions and billions of dollars and not one of them goes to prison. In fact, they're laughing all the way to the bank. Yet this poor schmuck gets a free 89-cent refill and it costs him hundreds of dollars. Maybe things will have to get worse before people wake up and smell the coffee!
Maria Houser Conzemius April 18, 2014 at 12:24 pm
*Wall Street CEOs can STEAL, I meant

Why have the drink fountain accessible to patrons if they aren't allowed to refill? Why not fillRead More the drink behind the counter so there is no confusion? You typically put the fountain out in front of the counter and allow patrons to fill their own cups when there are free refills. This incident is arguably entrapment.

Enough already! Do we have "days" commemorating every police officer or military memberRead More killed in the line of duty? No. This has evolved into obvious me-too'ism as politicians, sports teams and the media, even months later, jump on the bandwagon to get their little piece of this kid's story. (It's become political correctness run amok because of his medical situation.) Good on Kevin for what he accomplished. He has a lifetime of good memories; but as far as all these hangers-on--especially politicians--let's move on!

A horse and carriage ride in a park, fine. But not on busy, crowded city streets. It's cruel to theRead More horse and dangerous to everyone else. I'm with the NYC mayor on this one.

When taxes are imposed on various industries then to stay in business the prices increase on theRead More consumer!
