Since today's youth has easier access to a variety of drugs than past generations, Bensalem Township Drug and Alcohol Advisory Board will hold a seminar on current drug trends on Wednesday. Prevention Specialist Dave Fialko will present at the "Current Drug Trends: Staying Ahead to Keep Our Youth Safe" seminar, which will be held in the council chambers at the Bensalem Township Municipal Building. Bucks County Community College’s Arts at Bucks Celebration gets underway this week and will feature free concerts, demonstrations, exhibitions and more in a series of events that are open to the public. Many of the events are free. The month-long celebration begins Wednesday, April 15 and goes through May 14. "The annual Arts at Bucks festival showcases the talent and academic excellence available at the public, two-year school," according to a BCCC press release. Bensalem Township High School students will head to Cornwells Elementary School to teach kids about the dangers of smoking.
The Kick Butts Generation students from Bensalem Township High School will visit Cornwells Elementary to teach kids about the dangers of smoking. High schoolers will visit fifth and sixth grade students at the elementary school on Thursday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to noon with their "Kick Butts" message. During this time, Cornwells' students will rotate through interactive stations that will educate them to the dangers of smoking, according to information from the school district. Seven stations will be set up to encourage the elementary students to never smoke. One station will allow students to age their face in a video game to see how smoking can make you look older, while another station is focused on coloring anti-smoking pictures. The …

Bucks County Community College officials on Thursday, April 11 dedicated a new 9,000-square-foot addition in honor of former BCCC President Dr. James J. Linksz. The Dr. James J. Bensalem Township High School has appointed an interim principal and vice principal.
An interim principal and vice principal were named for Bensalem Township High School at the March 27 school board meeting. George V. Carlino will be the interim principal replacing Robert A. Anderson from March 12 through June 30. He will also serve as an educational consultant to assist the district in its search for the next principal. He will be paid a per diem rate of $700 for each eight hour day, members of the board said. After June 30, Carlino may be authorized to assist the district on an as-needed basis at the same per diem rate to help with the High School Principal applicant review process, interviewing candidates and orientation of the selected candidate as approved by the board. Over the past week, at least five teenagers under the legal age have been caught with tobacco on school grounds, police said.
Over the past week, at least five teenagers have been cited with tobacco use on school grounds, according to Bensalem Township police reports. In four separate police blotters, five students under the ago of 18 have been caught with tobacco on Bensalem Township High School property, which is a violation of school rules. The students will all be issued citations. Citations were made at the following date and time, according to Bensalem police: "The use or possession of any tobacco product is not permitted at any time in the school building, on school property, or at a school sponsored activity," according to information in the student and parent handbook for Bensalem Township High School. Students from Bucks County Technical High School took home 33 medals at the 2013 SkillsUSA state competitions held in Hershey, Pa. last week. Students traveled to Hershey on Wednesday, April 3 through Friday, April 5 to compete in the Leadership and Skills Conference, according to one of the students, Shane White. Prizes were awarded for skills in Occupational Health, Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Audio Production, Welding Sculpture and much more.
