Babysitter Gets Probation for Assault, Child Endangerment

Cindy Berdick of Bensalem is banned from babysitting as part of a plea deal.

A Bensalem babysitter was sentenced to five years probation and is banned from babysitting, according to reports. Cindy Berdick, 41, pleaded guilty to simple assault and child endangerment in Bucks County Court on Monday, according to both CBS Philly and PhillyBurbs. Berdick, who is a mother of three, admitted to assaulting a 4-month-old boy who was in her care last year after he suffered a near-fatal brain injury, CBS Philly reported. She didn't speak in court and offered no explanation as to why she harmed the baby. During the investigation, Berdick told detectives that the baby had been crying hysterically for 90 minutes before his arms and legs went stiff and his eyes rolled back in his head, CBS reported. The parents were investigated as well as the other babysitters. As noted in a previous comment the parents took a lie detector test and passed. I do believe Cindy was asked to take one and declined. Why doesn't Cindy take one now?? If medical records supposedly show that the brain bleeds were old Cindy should gone to trial and had her medical experts speak to that but she didn't. Murdered 18-Month-Old's Mother Faces Criminal Charges

Nakia Adams, 28, was arraigned on Monday on a charge of child endangerment.

Last week a Bristol man was sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to murder in the death of an 18-month-old Bensalem girl. This week the mother of the child is facing criminal charges for child endangerment, police say. Nakia Adams, 28, was arraigned on Monday before Bensalem District Judge Leonard Brown on a charge of endangering the welfare of children, and was released on $75,000 unsecured bail, an article on PhillyBurbs said. Patch previously reported that Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler said that the child was abused for "weeks if not months" prior to the incident that led to the her death. Bensalem Man Faces Assault Charges for Shaking His Infant

Bensalem police arrested a local man who shook his 3-month-old boy when he could stop his crying.

  On Nov. 1, the Bensalem Police Special Victims Unit charged a township man with assaulting his 3-month-old infant boy. On Oct. 12, Bensalem police and Bucks County Children and Youth began a joint investigation on the alleged assault. Aria Torresdale Hospital reported that they had an infant in their emergency room with head trauma.  These injuries were serious in nature and highly suspected abuse.   The infant was transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia for further assessment and specialized treatment. Couple Leaves Children Home Alone While Gambling

A man and a woman from Middletown are in trouble for leaving their young sons at home alone while the couple gambled at Parx Casino in Bensalem. According to PhillyBurbs, Nicole Donahue, 24 and Ryan Feyh, 29, of the 2100 block of Veterans Highway, were arrested early Friday morning after police learned they had left their 2- and 4-year-old sons home alone. The younger boy was found wandering in a nearby supermarket parking lot. Middletown police were called to the supermarket shortly before 1 a.m. after someone reported an unsupervised toddler. Local Woman Arrested in NJ for Theft

She also faces Bucks County charges related to a 2010 incident involving drugs and a stolen car with a 6-year-old passenger.

Colleen Freeling, 29, of Bensalem, was arrested in Mount Laurel, N.J. on March 20 for stealing nearly $450 worth of items from a Wegmans supermarket. According to PhillyBurbs, police learned Freeling was wanted in Bucks County on charges related to a 2010 incident involving the use of heroin in a stolen car and 6-year-old passenger. Man Charged with Aggravated Assault, Child Endangerment

The victim is an 18-month-old girl. She's in critical condition.

Bensalem police have announced the arrest of Adrian Morgan Allen, 27, of Gooseneck Road in Bristol Township on first-degree felony aggravated assault charges, child endangerment and related charges. Allen was lodged in Bucks County Prison after Bensalem District Judge Leonard Brown set his bail Monday at $1 million/10 percent. Police said that on Feb. 26 Allen allegedly called his girlfriend and told her that her 18 month old daughter was sick and vomiting. When she returned home that day she found her daughter unresponsive in her crib and took her to St. Mary Medical Center. The child was then flown to St. Christopher’s Hospital. UPDATE: Mom Charged With Leaving Baby In Shopping Cart

According to NBC10, the couple who found the baby said Hall "showed no emotion for her child."

On Feb. 5, Bensalem police arrested Loretta Hall, 30, of the 1600 block of Durham Road in Middletown, charging her with endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person after Hall allegedly left her 1-year-old baby girl alone in the cold in a shopping cart on a grassy area separating a Bensalem apartment complex and a shopping center. Hall was arraigned before District Judge Robert Wagner and sent to Bucks County prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. The baby was treated at St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown and is now in the custody of the Bucks County Children and Youth Social Services Agency. Parx Officials Tell Gaming Board About Increased Lot Security

They’ve added more patrols, more cameras.

It was Parx CEO Leonard DeAngelo and attorney Thomas Bonner who testified Thursday before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regarding children being left in vehicles in the casino’s parking lot while their parents gambled inside. After about a dozen incidents in two years, the board wanted to hear what the casino was doing to combat the problem. According to a story on Philly.com, casino officials said they have increased vehicle patrols of the parking lot and doubled the amount of security cameras. Parx Officials Discuss Children in Vehicles with State Gaming Board

There have been multiple offenders placed on the casino exclusion list because of this.

One of the first items on the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s agenda for its monthly meeting today was an informational hearing regarding children left in vehicles by Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, Inc., the owners of Parx Casino. According to a story on PhillyBurbs.com, the board asked Parx last year to come up with a plan for dealing with a series of incidents in which children were left in cars. As recently as July, there were two such incidents: According to the Gaming Control Board, there are 11 people on the state’s exclusion list for leaving kids in cars outside Pennsylvania casinos while they gambled inside. There were eight incidents at Parx and three at other state casinos. Here is the list:
