Bensalem Veteran Announces Candidacy for Congress

Kevin Strouse, a Bensalem native and veteran Army Ranger of Iraq and Afghanistan, will run for Congress in Pennsylvania's 8th District.

Former U.S. Army Ranger and Bensalem native Kevin Strouse announced Thursday that he is launching his campaign for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th District, according to a press release. Strouse is a combat veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. After serving three tours of duty in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, he put his experience to use by continuing his service as part of the CIA’s counterterrorism center. Fiscal Cliff Avoided by Late Night Vote

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick voted for the deal, which maintains income tax rates for people making less than $400,000 and couples earning less than $450,000 a year.

After months of negotiating, arguing and handwringing, the United States avoided tumbling over the dreaded fiscal cliff Tuesday night when the House of Representatives passed the Senate proposal by a 257-167 vote, CNN reports. After House Speaker John Boehner spiked an idea to re-open the Senate deal to add more spending cuts, Congress approved the measure with 172 votes from Democrats and 85 from Republicans, including Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8). "In August 2012, I voted to extend tax rates and other tax provisions for all taxpayers - a measure which the Senate refused to take up," said Fitzpatrick in a statement released by his office. "Throughout the fiscal cliff debate, my number one priority has been to maintain the lowest rates …

Fitzpatrick Plans to Visit 100 Businesses in 100 Days

He blasts Democrats on energy, healthcare and the budget, claiming the upcoming season will be a “Summer of Uncertainty.”

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-8th) made the following statement regarding his commitment to visit ‘100 Businesses in 100 Days’: “I am visiting ‘100 Businesses in 100 Days’ because I truly believe that the next three months may be one of the most critical stretches of time to get our economy moving again.  Much of the uncertainty plaguing business owners across the district and the nation will come to a head. With the coming travel and vacation seasons, fuel prices are expected to rise through Memorial Day and through the summer as this Administration has failed to present a comprehensive energy plan.  In June, the Supreme Court will determine the constitutionality of this Administration’s misguided Obamacare legislation.  By August, the …

Fitzpatrick Joins President in Making STOCK Act Law

Calls for more Congressional reforms.

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-8th) joined President Obama in signing the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act into law.  Congressman Fitzpatrick was an early cosponsor of the STOCK Act, and has actively advocated for its swift passage. "I was proud to join the President this morning in signing this important reform legislation sent to him by the House and Senate," said Fitzpatrick.  "The STOCK Act represents the first step in a necessary process to reform the way the federal government and Members of Congress conduct themselves.  I have taken a lead on a set of government reform bills which I urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to pursue with me and send them to the President's desk." Congressman Fitzpatrick supports …

I appreciate our Congressman's efforts and hard work on our behalf. To be candid, I don't see the big deal about a payment to a defined pension plan, as long as the plan is reasonable and the tax payers don't get screwed. If it is groosly unfair, well the bill makes sense. However, it should be pointed out than many municipal employees have the same option including police officers, fireman, …   more ›

Fitzpatrick: Legislation Provides Higher Education Flexibility

Congressman said education costs have skyrocketed in last decade.

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-8th) joined a bipartisan majority in the House to pass H.R. 2117, The Protecting Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act. The Congressman represents Bucks County. Here’s his comments: "Over the course of the last decade, we have seen the cost of higher education skyrocket, with the rise in tuitions and fees at public four-year colleges and universities outpacing inflation by 5 percent. The rising cost of higher education will not be solved through more federal mandates and programs, but by returning flexibility to academic institutions and preventing federal overreach." "Today's legislation will help streamline the federal role in higher education and protect states, schools and students from excessive and …

Fitzpatrick: Congressional Seat Shouldn’t Bring to Personal Wealth

Congressman lauds STOCK Act.

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (R-8th) issued the following statement on the passage of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act: "The STOCK Act is an important measure designed to hold Members of Congress and members of the administration to the highest of standards.  Confidence in Congress is at an all time low and restoring trust with the American people is paramount.  My goal with this legislation is to restore the idea that serving in Congress is a privilege and should be a sacrifice -- not a springboard to personal wealth." "While affirming the ban on insider trading, the STOCK Act also significantly broadens prohibited activity and establishes a new reporting system that will allow for unprecedented transparency." "By shining …

Supports extension of pay freeze for Congress and federal employees.

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-8th) voted Feb. 1 to extend the existing pay freeze for Members of Congress and federal employees. Congressman Fitzpatrick was one of four cosponsors of H.R. 3835. “I am glad that my colleagues in the House have joined me in my efforts to rein in out-of-control federal spending and restore fiscal sanity to our nation’s capital,” said Fitzpatrick in a release.  “As Congress continues to find savings in the massive federal bureaucracy, it should start with its own payrolls.  At a time when we are asking all federal agencies to live within their means, it is important that Congress follows suit.” According to the release, H.R. 3835 amends the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011 (P.L. 111-242) to extend through …

How wonderful Mike, now if you could submit a bill that would treat elected congressional leaders equal to the average working man in America that would really send a message. The lowest paid congressional leader makes at least 174,000 dollars a year, (that is just in pay) they only have to work five years to receive a reduced pension, and if they work ten years their pension is equal to their …   more ›
