One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. What do you think? Is the proposal reasonable? About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. DUI charges are pending for a man who was observed urinating in public, according to state police reports. On Saturday, April 6 at 2:46 a.m., Trooper Thomas Geerlof observed a 32-year-old man urinating on the side of the road on I-95 South near mile marker 33.8 in Bensalem, according to a police report. The man was arrested for being under the influence of alcohol and was taken to St. Mary Medical Center where a blood sample was taken. DUI charges are pending, police said.

State Police released recent crime information, including charges for DUI.
A Bristol man was pulled over for having expired registration, then was arrested for driving under the influence, state police said. According to recent state police reports, Trooper Kevin Lee observed a Silver, Acura RSX with expired registration while on patrol on Jan. 29 at 1:35 a.m. The vehicle's operator was also seen swerving on 95 N at mile marker 37.9 in Bensalem, police said. Lee initiated a traffic stop and after further investigation, the operator of the Acura, a 26-year-old male from Bristol, was found to be intoxicated, the report said. The man failed field sobriety tests and was then arrested for driving under the influence. Charges are filed in relation to DUI at Magisterial District Court, police said.

DUI charges are pending for three individuals after state police responded to three separate incidents, according to reports. On Jan. 19 just before midnight, Trooper Craig M. Acord observed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner traveling north on 95 near mile marker 33 in Bensalem, a police release said. The operator of the vehicle, a 29-year-old male from Philadelphia, was found to be intoxicated. He was transported to the state police's Trevose Station where he was evaluated by Drug Recognition Expert Trooper Christopher Nacious and was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. DUI charges are pending for three individuals after state police responded to three separate incidents, according to reports. Just after midnight on Sunday, Jan. 13 a state police officer on patrol observed a silver Mazda Tribute swerving and weaving on I-95 southbound at mile marker 37, reports said. Trooper Kevin Lee initiated a traffic stop and after further investigation, the operator of the vehicle—a 39-year-old male from Bensalem—was found to be intoxicated, the police report said. State Police released recent crime information, including a DUI.
DUI charges are pending after a state police officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding, according to police reports. On Sunday, Jan. 6 at 1:24 a.m., a 40-year-old man from Lawrenceville, NJ was pulled over on 95 North at mile marker 37.9 for operating his vehicle in excess of the posted speed limit, the report said. At that time, State Trooper Craig M. Acord found that the driver was intoxicated. He was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for chemical testing before being taken to the Trevose Station of Pennsylvania State Police where he was processed and released. This case will proceed via summons, and charges will be filed at district court.

On Dec. 22, a 46-year-old man from Levittown was stopped for speeding and swerving on 95, North of Street Road in Bensalem. State Police stopped the subject, who was found to be impaired. The subject agreed to a blood test. Blood Alcohol Content is pending analysis of blood. The subject was processed and released. The case will proceed by summons as per Rule 519 of the PA Rules of Criminal Procedure.
