When Patch launched in Bensalem, editors and freelancers visited many local businesses to collect information for our directory. Patch Places is where users can find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods and much more for spots around town. All users can add events taking place at local spots, can rate the business on a scale of one to five stars and can add a review. But owners of local businesses get extra bonuses when they claim a listing. Owners or managers should search for their business listing and select "claim you listing" in order to make updates to the page. A form will pop up asking for your name, contact information and proof of ownership. Within a few days, someone from Patch should contact you to verify your …

Five percent of our ad space goes free of charge to non-profits.
As mentioned in a previous Patch 101 tutorial, Patch Gives Back to the Community, volunteering is a big part of Patch. We volunteer at least five times a year, list volunteer opportunities in our calendar and let groups make announcements when they're in need of volunteers. At Patch we also give 5 percent of advertising space to local charities and non-profits free of charge. This way the organizations get a little in return for doing good deeds for the community. Learn more about advertising opportunities here or contact the following representatives to learn more about whether or not you qualify for free ad space: Stephanie Leicht: 610.451.4080, stephanie.leicht@patch.com; Nicole Mallon: 215.380.6685, nicole.mallon@patch.com.

Have the inside scoop? Send us a tip.
Do you have the inside scoop on the goings on in town? Is there a story out there that we aren't covering? Well let us know. By sending Patch a news tip, you can make the editor aware of a topic that he or she hasn't discovered yet, or simply let us know what interests you and the community. You can choose "Send us news tips" from the contribute box at the bottom of the page or "Submit a Tip" at the bottom of any article page. Either way will open a pop-up form. Enter your name and e-mail, and be sure to give us accurate information so we can get in touch with you if we have questions or want to follow up. Then add your suggestion. The more information and details you can give, the better. For instance, if you want us to write about your …

Throughout the year Patch employees give back to the community by volunteering.
One perk of working at Patch is the opportunity to give back to the community through the Give 5 program. In addition to the day-to-day coverage of our towns, Give 5 allows employees to volunteer five days throughout the year. If you're in need of volunteers, create an announcement or add an event to our calendar to raise awareness. If there's a great cause that you think editor Joe Hart should dedicate a future Give 5 day to, send an e-mail to joe.hart@patch.com with information. Additionally, Patch gives 5 percent of advertising space to local charities and non-profits free of charge as part of the Give 5 program. To see if you qualify for free ad space, contact us.

Ask and answer questions about the community and site on Patch.
Are you curious about who has the best pizza around? Maybe you need a dry cleaner to preserve your wedding gown. If you have any questions dealing with Bensalem, you can ask it on Patch. Our Q&A section, which can be found in the navigational toolbar, is the place to ask any question you may have. Once you click on the Q&A tab, you can browse by unanswered questions, all questions and questions you've asked. You can also respond to someone's question or post your own. When you start to type in the "Ask a question" spot, that section of the page will expand. You can then add an explanation to elaborate on what you're asking. For example, someone recently asked how to search for events that are more than one week away. In the explanation …

Want to promote your yard sale or invite the community to the church choir concert? Add it to the calendar.
Part of Bensalem Patch is our events calendar. We add upcoming events as we hear about them, but we don't know about everything going on in the community. So we need your help. If your church is having its annual picnic, let us know. If your son's soccer team is holding a fundraiser to raise money for new uniforms, tell us where to go to help. There's room for bake sales, yard sales, school events, concerts, lectures, government meetings, fairs and more in our calendar. Follow these steps to learn how to add your event, and help us fill our calendar. Now the whole Patch community will know about your event, and it might even be featured in our 5 Things article or in our Weekend Planner roundup.
