Leadership on Bensalem Township Council shifted at the panel's annual reorganization meeting on Monday. In the first order of business, Council President Joseph Pilieri relinquished his seat to new President Joseph Szafran. Also elected to leadership roles were Ed Kisselback, vice president, and Joseph Knowles, secretary. Knowles was absent from the reorganization meeting. Council identified its bi-monthly meetings for 2011 and named the Bucks County Courier Times as its media choice for legal advertising. Bensalem Township Council meets tonight for its annual reorganization meeting. The first meeting of the New Year is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the township Municipal Building at 2400 Byberry Road. During this meeting, council members will elect their president, vice president, secretary and assistant secretary for 2011. Council will also appoint numerous township officials for 2011, including: a court stenographer, municipal clerk, solicitor, engineer, an accounting firm and various department heads. Council will also designate an official depository, a news media for legal ads and its monthly meeting dates for 2011. Council will also give advice and consent on the following mayoral appointments:

It seems to me that shorter terms should also be in place for the Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation, Economic Development, and the Code of Appeals, and especially the Zoning Board. I live in a neighborhood where a townhouse project that was fueled by a an over-zealous political machine and contributions by some of these departments.
