The Route 13 project will add sidewalks, reconstruct bridges, medians, get rid of many jug handles and reduce some lanes of travel, officials tell Patch.
After more than a dozen years of talk and speculation, the Route 13 revitalization project is expected to begin in just weeks. The project will begin at the end of January when contractors will begin utility work and drainage installation in the area of Route 13 and Green Lane, PennDOT spokesperson Charles Metzger said. The estimated $40 million project will revamp the roadway from Veterans Highway (Route 413) to the Levittown Parkway. The communities of Bristol, Bristol Township and Tullytown will be impacted by the project. Crews will revitalize the busy commuter route by creating a new median, reconstructing the roadway, adding left turn lanes and ridding the area of several jug handles. Patch would like to remind Bensalem residents who regularly use I-95 that the eastbound Princeton Avenue on-ramp to the interstate northbound in the Tacony section of Northeast Philadelphia will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. The closure is for the installation of a drainage pipe on the ramp, according to PennDOT. During the ramp closure, eastbound Princeton Avenue motorists will be detoured north on State Road to Linden Avenue, and left at Linden Avenue to the ramp to I-95 North. Message boards and signs will be posted to direct motorists along the detour route. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission cautions motorists that a seven-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions for five hours on Sunday, June 12. The closed portion will be between Bensalem (Exit #351) and Delaware Valley (Exit #358) for overnight work to place steel girders on the bridge that carries Bristol Oxford Valley Road over the Turnpike at milepost 357 in Bensalem. At midnight on until 5 a.m. on Sunday, all eastbound traffic must exit at the Bensalem Interchange and westbound traffic will be diverted off at the Delaware Valley Interchange. Asphalt... brilliant. Because some of the most wicked potholes on that stretch of road are known to crop up in the asphalt section where 13 runs through the borough, PennDOT decides that is what we need more of.
