School District Announces Employee Wrongdoing

Facilities workers falsified time records, according to district superintendent.

The Bensalem School District announced today that certain employees in its facilities department have falsified time records and collected wages that they did not earn or deserve.  According to a release, two of the employees have already resigned and Superintendent David Baugh is considering disciplinary options and dismissal for others. "In consideration of all of the honest and hard working employees of this district, it is regrettable that a few employees have tarnished the reputation of this district," said Baugh.  "I want to thank the person who provided the anonymous tip to me that led to my investigation and findings of wrongdoing.  I invite anyone else who has any knowledge of any alleged wrongdoing to contact me or my office.  We…

I was just reading through some old material when I came across this string of comments which shows community concern which is healthy in that members are concerned with the well being of the township. I agree with many of the comments posted particularly with the notion that the administration that was in place needs to take ownership of this unfortunate situation. Anytime someone falsifies …   more ›

School District Boasts on Billboards

Teams with Clear Channel for free advertising.

Under a newly forged relationship with Clear Channel Outdoor, the Bensalem School District has begun communicating its accomplishments and delivering other messages to thousands of motorists via two electronic billboards. The advertising company is providing the high-profile space free of charge as part of its public service efforts. Superintendent of Schools David Baugh said he is "extremely pleased" with the new working relationship. "It allows us to celebrate the many achievements of our excellent students and teachers while not spending a penny of the taxpayers' money," he said. "It is good for the schools and good for the community." Barbara Bridge, vice president of public affairs for the Philadelphia division of Clear Channel …

School Lane Charter CEO Optimistic But Would Likely Appeal Rejection

School board poised to decide on new high school.

The CEO of School Lane Charter School is optimistic of getting approval next week to expand the current K-8 program for high school students. "I'm hopeful and very optimistic," Karen Schade said Friday. "I feel the school has gotten a very positive response from the school district." But, if that approval does not come, Schade says the township's only charter school would likely appeal to the state. "If we get a no, we would have to gather 1,000 signatures in order to file an appeal. We would be making that attempt, more than likely," she said. It wasn't that long ago that things weren't so optimistic. In June, the school board voted to sue School Lane, claiming the charter school owes the district unpaid annual payments totaling $361,…

District Officials Not Impressed With Revised Charter School Application

Founders, consultant are no-shows at school board hearing

School district leaders are obviously not impressed with a revised application for a charter school in Trevose, which still calls for a September opening. And an attorney representing the founders of the proposed Keystone Academy Charter School was obviously in no rush to answer any of the district's second round of questioning Wednesday night. Surprisingly, the lawyer didn't even know the location of the planned school. The application got a resounding rejection in February, as the board cited 23 concerns including a lack of educational experience among school founders, budget deficiencies and a failure to demonstrate sustainable community support. Superintendent Bill Gretzula said at Wednesday's hearing that school founders had made less…

I was originally a proponent of this charter school. I would like a second option for high school aged children. But after reading this and the news report from the previous application hearing, I don't think these guys (the charter school people) even know what they are doing? I want a second option for my children- not a sub-standard option.   more ›
