State Police Charge Sex Offender with Megan’s Law Violation

Trevose troopers picked up Michael Jospeh, a Megan’s Law registrant, for not telling police he moved.

  On Nov. 27 at 12:50 p.m., state police arrested a Philadelphia sex offender at a motel in Trevose. Troopers said Michael J. Joseph, 53, failed to notify state police of a change of address within 48 hours. Joseph is required to register under Megan’s Law. He was taken into custody by the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department on a domestic relations warrant as well as a parole violation related to the Megan’s Law violation. Joseph was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility. Trooper Joseph Schmidt investigated the incident.

Governor Signs Bill to Toughen Sex Offender Law

According to the state’s Megan’s Law website, there are currently 53 sex offenders registered in Bensalem.

  On Dec. 20, Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law the “Adam Walsh Bill,’’ also known as Senate Bill 1183, which will strengthen the state’s rule on convicted sex offenders, by imposing tougher reporting standards. According to a release, the bill also closes loopholes in Pennsylvania’s current Megan’s Law that in the past allowed transient and certain out-of-state offenders to evade criminal prosecution by ignoring requirements for registering their home, school and work addresses with police. “Megan’s Law is named for Megan Kanka, a New Jersey child murdered by a sexual predator. Restaurant Manager Faces Fondling Charges at Preliminary Hearing

Teen victims reported uncomfortable workplace.

Last month, Bensalem police arrested a shift manager at Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen on Street Road for inappropriately touching several teenage female employees. Eduardo Tomasek, 51, of the 2500 block of Knights Road, was charged with indecent assault, unlawful contact with minors, corruption the morals of minors and related offenses following a two-month investigation by the Bensalem Police Special Victims Unit. At a preliminary hearing on Tuesday in his district courtroom, Judge Leonard Brown ordered the Tomasek held for trial on all charges, according to a story on PhillyBurbs.com. Ex-Cop Sentenced for Sex Assault

Michael Marren faces up to three years in prison.

Former Bensalem police officer Michael Marren was sentenced in Bucks County court for sexual assault. According to a story on PhillyBurbs.com, Marren, 42, will serve 1½ to three years in state prison for the aggravated indecent assault of a 23-year-old work associate in March 2010. The story stated Marren was found guilty in December of attacking the woman in the township rescue squad, where he was a paramedic and was a volunteer. The incident occurred after a night of drinking. While a member of the Bensalem police, Marren served as head of the department's Special Victim's Unit, which handles crimes involving sexual assault. Police Charge Restaurant Manager with Molesting Teen Employees

Popeye's shift manager Eduardo Tomasek was incarcerated on $250,000 bail.

On May 23 at 3:15 p.m., Bensalem Police Special Victims Unit arrested Eduardo Tomasek, 50, of the 2500 block of Knights Road, for indecent assault, unlawful contact with minors, corruption the morals of minors and related offenses. After a two-month investigation, Tomasek, a shift manager at Popeye’s Restaurant 2160 Street Road, was accused of fondling and inappropriately touching at least three 15-16 year-old female employees and supplied some of them with gifts and money.  Tomasek, a former Florida resident, was found on the Megan’s Law registry. Popeye’s management has been cooperating with police during the investigation. He was taken into custody at Popeye’s shortly after his shift began. He was video arraigned by Judge Kline and sent…

Jury: Ex-Policeman Guilty of Sex Crime

Michael Marren will be a registered sex offender under Megan's Law.

Michael Marren, a former Bensalem Township police sergeant, faces a stiff prison sentence and a lifetime as a registered sex offender, for the March assault of a 23-year-old woman, according to a Bucks County Courier Times report. The jury found Marren guilty of aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault, according to the Courier Times. He was found not guilty of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and sexual assault. Ironically, Marren is the former head of the department's Special Victim's Unit, which handles crimes involving sexual assault. He also worked part time at the Bensalem Rescue Squad, which is how he knew the victim and also where the incident took place, according to the Courier Times. The Courier Times story …
