Sears, Walmart Offering Tax Preparation Services

Tax preparations are being offered at some Bensalem businesses.

If you're looking for help preparing your taxes, several Bensalem businesses will have tax specialists on hand. Here are a few local options: Jackson Hewitt Tax Service will offer tax preparation services in Sears at Neshaminy Mall. Tax preparation for individuals and free e-filing to the IRS will be available from Monday through Friday's from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday's from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday's from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 15. H&R Block will be at the Horizon Boulevard Walmart through April 15. Free refund estimates, basic returns (1040EZ) and low pricing on other filing types will be available. Councilman to Business Leaders: No Tax Hike in Budget

Bensalem Council President Joe Knowles spoke at the most recent Bensalem Business Association meeting.

  Township Council President Joe Knowles gave Bensalem business leaders some good news a couple weeks ago. Knowles, a local realtor and lifelong township resident, spoke at the Nov. 14 Bensalem Business Association (BBA) meeting at the Philadelphia Private Gym. He discussed public service and the role of township council. He said council votes on ordinances, resolutions and land developments. The panel also approves the mayor’s department head appointments. “But council’s main job in Bensalem is to pass the budget,” Knowles explained. Then he sprung the good news. Parx Tables Generate $9.3M in Sept.

Table games at the local casino generated $1,190,249 in state taxes and $186,684 in local taxes for Bensalem and Bucks County.

  Parx Casino in Bensalem had the second highest table game revenue ($9.33 million) in September compared to Pennsylvania’s other casinos. Only the tables at Sands Casino in Bethlehem brought in more money ($13.58 million). The revenue at Parx tables dropped slightly from last year’s mark of $9.5 million, but revenue at all 11 Pennsylvania casinos was $59.3 million this September, compared to $51.4 million last September. That represented a 15.4 percent increase in gross revenue. Tax revenue generated from table games at state casinos this September was $8.6 million. Parx Slot Machines Generate $30M in September

Slots at all 11 state casinos generate over $200 million in September gross revenue.

  According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the slot machines at Parx Casino in Bensalem generated over $30 million in gross revenue for September. That figure was the highest of all 11 state casinos. Sands Casino in Bethlehem earned $23.45 million and Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh earned $22.34 to round out the top three. The combined September revenue for all 11 casinos was $200.47 million, which generated tax revenue of $108,338,974. Parx Tables Earn Almost $9M in June; $117M for FY

Statewide, casino tables earned $57.1M in June and $663.9M for the fiscal year.

  Table games at Parx Casino had revenue of $8.85 million in June and finished the 2011-12 fiscal year at $117 million. The Bensalem gaming house consistently finishes second in the state to Sands Casino in Bethlehem, which earned $12.67 million in June and $128 million for fiscal year. According to a release from the Pa. Gaming Control Board, revenue from table games at the state’s 11 casinos was $57.1 million in June and $663.9 million for the fiscal year. The state taxes gross revenue from table games at 16 percent. Of that amount, 14 percent goes the to the Commonwealth’s General Fund and 2 percent to the Local Share Assessment. Statewide, the tables generated $9.2 million in tax revenue in June and $107 million for the fiscal year. …

Pa. Slots Generate $1.35 Billion in Taxes for FY

Parx Casino leads state with $388 million in slot machine revenue.

  The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said its tax revenue produced from slot machines during Fiscal Year 2011-12 totaled $1.35 billion an increase of nearly 5 percent from last fiscal year, when it was $1.28 billion. Since casinos opened in November 2006, taxes slot machines have totaled $6 billion. Slots are taxed at 55 percent. According to a release, that revenue is to fund homeowner property tax reduction, increased purses and benefits to personnel in the horse racing industry, economic development including water and sewer projects, local fire and emergency company grants, and the General Fund Budget. School Board Gives Final Approval To Budget

Average homeowner will see a $64 tax hike

Making adjustments until the last minute, the Bensalem Township Board of School Directors on Wednesday approved a 2012-2013 budget of $120.6 million. The spending plan will raise the tax bill of the average township homeowner by about $64. That compares to an initial estimate in January of $89, but is a little more than the $60 projected at the start of Wednesday's board meeting. Board member Elizabeth Cerasi proffered an amendment to raise the millage rate from 141.15 to 144.35, which translated to $4.40 on the tax hike. It was approved on a 5-3 vote, with newest board members Kevin McKay, Matthew Grodsky and Pam Strange dissenting. The final vote on the budget was approved with the exact same vote. Pennsylvania Gaming Revenue Highest in the US

New PA casinos rake in more tax dollars than NJ, Nevada and Delaware combined.

In an article in Allentown's the Morning Call, Pennsylvania raked in more than $1.5 billion dollars in taxes last year from its ten casinos (and now there are 11). According to the Gaming Control Board and the American Gaming Association, Pennsylvania earned more than New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada combined. "Pennsylvania leads and it's not even close," said Richard McGarvey, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to the Call. "That's what happens when you have a 55 percent tax rate in a state this big." The high rate is credited with the big haul. Parx Slots Continue to Lead the State

Total revenue from all 11 state casinos was over $212 million.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported that the play of slot machines at the eleven operating casinos produced more than $212 million in gross revenue in May 2012 compared to $205 last May. That resulted in a return of $114,928,891 in taxes to Pennsylvania citizens for the month, an average of $3.7 million of taxes collected per day. Parx Casino led the way in May with $32.6 million in slot machine revenue. It was followed by Sands Casino in Bethlehem with $25 million and Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh with $23 million. Parx Tables Make $8.9M in April

Down over last April’s figures.

Parx Casino’s table game revenue for April was $8.9 million. That figure was second highest in the state behind Sands Casino in Bethlehem, which earned $10.8 million at the tables. The revenue at Parx was down from last April when the casino earned $10.4 million. According to a Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board release, gross revenue from the play of table games at the state’s 11 casinos was $56,499,624. That amount was 6.83 percent higher than in April 2011 when revenue totaled $52,889,279. Tax revenue from table games to the state (14% of gross revenue) during April was $8,038,964.
