State Receives "Obamacare" Info From Feds

Pennsylvania is one of 25 states that hasn’t formally declared whether it will go ahead with the Medicaid expansion.

By Melissa Daniels | PA Independent HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s administration received new information about implementing a health insurance exchange and a Medicaid expansion on Monday, two major state requirements in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sent a letter and 17 pages of frequently asked questions to governors of all 50 states on Monday. According to Christine Cronkright, deputy director of communications in the governor’s press office, the administration received this information at 2:30 p.m. Monday and is still reviewing the documents. This information arrives after Gov. Tom Corbett has said, multiple times, that state officials have been …

Yeah ... Saw that in The Inqy yesterday. Thank God the Democrats would NEVER raise taxes (although I guess NOW they'll call it anything but a "tax") on the Middle Class! Because you know the employers are simply going to pass that cost right down to their employees. Happy days!   more ›

Small Crowd Protests Obama Visit to MontCo

About three dozen people lined Bethlehem Pike in Hatfield Friday.

Holding signs that read "Hey middle class, they are coming for your $ next," and "Taxing the rich hurts everyone," a group of about three dozen people protested President Barack Obama's visit to Hatfield Friday morning. The protestors gathered in the vacant lot of a closed down gas station near the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Unionville Road in Hatfield, waving signs and garnering the occasional honk in return. "This isn't really about Democrats or Republicans, it's about the fiscal policies and that we don't like where President Obama is taking this country," said Steve Piotrowski, chair of the Norristown-based Citizens for Liberty and organizer of the protest. "I personally would like to see Obamacare repealed, along with the …

Speak Out: Will You Boycott Denny's, Applebees and Papa John's?

The franchise owners of these popular chains are making big changes to offset costs of Obamacare, but it's causing some customers to rethink which businesses they'll support.

Several franchise owners of popular restaurant chains say that the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare will increase costs for small business owners—and in order to offset costs they are adding surcharges to bills, threatening layoffs and more. According to the Huffington Post, John Metz, a Florida-based Denny's franchise owner, is adding a 5 percent surcharge to customers' bills to offset costs for healthcare. Apple-Metro CEO Zane Tankel, who owns more than 40 Applebee's chains in the metro New York area, slammed Obamacare on Fox Business Network, Huffington Post reported, stating he would not hire any more employees and may cut the hours of current employees.  But a Twitter campaign has already begun against Papa John's after CEO John …

Poll: What Do You Think of Obamacare Decision?

Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senators release reactions to the ruling.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Affordable Care Act, known colloquially as "Obamacare," upholding the constitutionality of the act in a ruling Thursday morning, according to a report from the Supreme Court website. Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senators released reactions to the ruling. Sen. Pat Toomey (R): “I am extremely disappointed. Today’s decision is a jarring blow to our 200-year-old tradition of constitutionally limited government and personal liberty,” Toomey said. “ The Supreme Court’s decision doesn’t change the fact that President Obama’s health care law is a terrible policy that will impose new taxes, increase the cost of health care and cost our country jobs. It is now up to Congress to repeal Obamacare and enact common-…
