ReplyThe person who anonymously sent this stuff is an IDIOT.
And if that person thinks there's really nothing wrong with them why is that person still staying anonymous? I'd say the answer can be summed up with one word: coward.
Unfortunately for Hightstown this is SOSDD.
Sad. -
On the article 2.77% Tax Hike Proposed by Bensalem School District

ReplyThey have a fairly new business administrator, who must have significant input on the deficit numbers.
But when a new plan is devised in less than two weeks that drastically changes the whole scenario, then you know that the first scenario was a scare tactic. This happens all the time to make residents feel less annoyed/angry at the ultimate outcome. To answer your other question, from what I read, the board decided to spent up to $10,000 for a budget consultant and that tells you all you need to know about its confidence in the administration. -

ReplyIt's not. They said $12 million about a week ago. Now they say $9 million AND 'we need to hire an outsider to help us with the budget.' That's what a superintendent is for.
A couple weeks from now, the deficit will probably be $8 million.
It's theatre aimed at making residents feel like the ultimate outcome, in the form of a significant tax hike, is a great accomplishment. -

ReplyThis is laughable and sad at the same time.
In a week's time, $3 million was reduced from the supposed $12 million deficit?! And now I guess the hero worship is expected to begin? ('Oh how wonderful. these folks are really sharpening their pencils.' Puh-leeze. What scare tactics and a dog and pony show.)
Meanwhile the board has so little confidence in the superintendent that they have to spend $10,000 of OUR money to hire a consultant for the budget process? -

ReplyThis is theatre.
First off, there's no way in these times of economic recession and funding cuts to education that there can be no tax increase. Especially with a district with a huge debt. It's just a ridiculous idea.
On the other hand, the district is doing what many do--painting a doomsday picture, saying the worst case scenario is possible. The truth is the district will never cut ALL extracurriculars or 70 teaching positions.
What it will do is something in the middle and then puff out its collective chest as if it really accomplished something and "saved" the taxpayers from a much worse tax increase. (In this case it will probably blame the former business administrator for this "sudden" and "surprising" financial forecast. It's just so easy to make him the scapegoat.)
This happens all the time...and there are no heroes; just administrators who will still expect raises and board members who want to be re-elected. -

ReplyBravo to those who filed the petition.
And J. Peters you are correct--this would be one more excuse for not consolidating services. -

ReplyWay to go, Robert M! Someone had to start the unsupported, ignorant, biased BS and make it political to boot.
Keep in mind folks: It was the POLICE who conducted this probe, not the superintendent. -

ReplyHey folks: What do you think "conflicting interest" means?

If the school board president is "befuddled," it seems to me that means one of three things:
--he's not being honest;
--he hasn't been paying attention;
--the administration has led him astray (translation: lied to the board or not done its homework)
Knowing Mr. Douglass, I don't believe for a second he's lying or not paying attention. Knowing Mr. Baugh, I have no problem believing #3.
Meanwhile, can you spell: T-A-J M-A-H-A-L?
